Another significant part of the progression of ballet was this film. It demonstrates in such a beautiful format and style a crossing of complete opposite happenings of a working class young boy's journey of finding his passion and talent-ballet and pursuing it to the royal academy of dance. It branch in fact s out to the most unexpected niche of people to show that both anything is possible and ballet is not for wimps. The film eventually progressed into a musical which currently shows in four different worldwide regions.

Darcey Bussel received 13 encours on her last performance. I think it is safe to say that Ballet is going strong.

This is my long awaited microscope. I have spent a lot of time fixing it and therefor getting to know the ins and outs of this model and more like it. I am yet to work out how to translate what I see through it onto a computer so I can oggle the imagery.

Speaking from experiance: The simple things are the hardest

A massive issue that I have looked into is the running debate of weather or not Ballet is a sport or an art. It is always argued that Ballet is one of the most if not THE most strenous from of pysical activity in the world.

An anonymous blogger wrote in an argument as to weather or not Ballet is a sport or not..

"The definition for sport is a Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively"

There are reams of rules in Ballet-some mentioned in my ballet book (bible) such as turnout or pointing and posture. Surely this justifies the point? I for one think so.

These are my favourite videos involving Darcey Bussell. Anything with footage of the training process in it I could sit and watch for hours.

I find the parts involving her education the most interesting. Ever since I was about 8 I have wanted to be a ballerina. It is one of my largest regrets in the world but hey ho, I wouldn't be here. I've taken up classes which makes me feel better too. That is why I love seeing training footage as it is like a secret viewing of what happens on those inside walls I will never be a part of. It also shows off the strength needed that you wouldn't necessarily see in a performance as it is masked with fake expressions and the sheer fact of being further away. I had the privilege of seeing an intense class of a ballet school in Surrey before the performance of A Midsummer Nights Dream. I vow that my theory of ballet being the instrument used to use your body at its full potential.

I guess only a few would be household names like any other generation of people. They would most likely have been Margot and Anna Pavlova. This is from what I have seen of documentation of that era and word of mouth. To move on onto the household names of our generation is going to happen.

Minimalist Interior Design.

This has always been attractive to me but ever since I have moved out of my home, the appearance of my own living space and growing knowledge and love for working Graphic Design as become a lot more addictive.

Over the past few weeks I have been collecting various images which I think correlate to my definition of minimalist interior design.

There seem to be three rules to it. Organisation, maximum use of space (including negative space) and having a firm grasp on colour control. Function over form has also been a subject on my mind concerning this. It seems that everything has earnt its place in the room concerned yet, is it all there for a purpose? Is everything used or is it just for aesthetics? Does it turn your living room into an art gallery or the cafeteria at the design museum?

There seems to be a massive fixation about organisation. When you think about it it does play a massive part of the style of decor. Things are going to look a lot more methodic and functional when there are placed in dead straight right angles and most probably in alphabetical order. Function over form? both sides can be argued. I know I feel better coming home to a tidy room. In the photograph below particularly it seems as thought the books or records or whatnot have been placed there to make a discreet method of storage? But could it be said that it forms a decorative skirting board?

There is also a massive focus on staircase. My verdict-form over function. The staircase is no longer a method of getting from the ground floor to the first floor. It is a projection of your taste and even stage in life. I don't see how a toddler gate could be fitted on these bad boys.

There is also an injection of 1960's interior design. This is when colour has a chance. There seems to be strict rules of placement of colour. I know in my most recent attempt of decoration, (a future hobby I propose) I blur my eyes to see where colour is needed or should be retracted from the room. When used properly-doesnt half look beautiful in some rooms...

Waitrose jilted their reputation to me when I went in and kindly asked if I could photograph some items in their essential range. I had to contact head office..Bracknall?! blast! I then ended up having to thank my mother for her entire trolley of shopping consisting of items from the essential range. Thanks mum.

As soon as my macbook is up and running again I shall slam up the photos followed by some discussion faster than you can say good.

.... Good old tech guys at college are fixing it as I type. The mac room is catering my uploads.

I will start with a selection of essential Waitrose packaging that I think works.

If someone were to argue on the side of simplicity these would be some perfect contenders. Not only do they fit to brand that they are representing by acting up to essential packaging, by being packaging and only packaging, (no frills), they fit to the Superstores clean and sophisticated look whilst still giving across an organic and humble feel.

All of these things have beautiful illustration on them, but this has to be my favourite. I love how the designers aren't afraid of having a completely plain side. They definitely get away with it-even the complete opposite rich in colour and beautifully dense illustration.

Now these are some of the essential range that don't quite fit the bill. Is it that the designer has not quite though through the possibility of not everything can be illustrated with such imaginative and intricate detail. For example, The soured cream doesn't look exactly the most delicious and essentially appetising thing in the world.

Another thing that seems to be a very strong aspect of this packaging that makes me think that everything is not as easy and breezy as the supermarket may seem is the strong presence of inconsistency. The cheesecake above appears to be in the Waitrose own range but does not have the packaging that the majority of the shop has. Is it because the shop is undergoing another change?

Again here we see a fairly similar product, at least in the categorising of the supermarket. You would have thought that in the design of the layout of the supermarket at least they wouldn't put such a obvious clash of packaging next to one another. Perhaps this is an old packaging that hasn't gone through the redesign process? I hope so.

Another one! I was starting to question weather or not this line was welcome in my What is Good project. This has made me feel a little better though. It seems that they are moving quickly and not necessarily to plan. There seems to be so many varieties of completley different design ideas in the store. Maybe if we give them a bit of space they'll will get themselves sorted.

Yet another option. Found this a few days ago and though I would pop it on the end. It made me full of hope and at the same time made me feel a little scared about the future of main stream design. I do like the appearance of the boxes, and I love the fact that they are really small. They look really practical and nice and it makes me feel like I am buying quality and value for money. However, I think this is a slight insight to what might happen on the larger scale of design. Are we going to loose tough with the more hand rendered style? We will have to wait and see.

I have a big ol pile of things I want to blog but my macbook has quit on me and I have moved to no mans land where I know no one with such a machine to fix it (it is required.. longstory). Not long now I hope.

Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches in a tiled pattern are used to form a picture. The stitcher counts the threads in each direction so that the stitches are of uniform size and appearance. Cross-stitch is one of the oldest forms of embroidery and can be found all over the world.^[1] Many folk museums show examples of clothing decorated with cross-stitch, especially from continental Europe and Asia.

Two-dimensional (unshaded) cross-stitch in floral and geometric patterns, usually worked in black and red cotton floss on linen, is characteristic of folk embroidery in Eastern and Central Europe.^[2]

In the United States, the earliest known cross-stitch sampler is currently housed at Pilgrim Hall in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Itwas created by Loara Standish, daughter of Captain Myles Standish and pioneer of the Leviathan stitch, 1653.

Multicoloured, shaded, painting-like patterns as we know them today are a recent development, deriving from similar shaded patterns ofBerlin wool work of the mid-nineteenth century.

Traditionally, cross-stitch was used to embellish items like dishcloths, household linens, and doilies (only a small portion of which would actually be embroidered, such as a border).
